The Research Ethics Committee (REC) was formed through Special Order No. 1151 – OP Series of 2019, dated 4 November 2019 with the subject: Reconstitution of the SO No. 948-OP, Series of 2019 re: creation of MSU Marawi Campus Research Committees, namely Research Ethics Committee (REC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
1) Develop, recommend and implement standard operating procedure (SOP) on the ethical review of research protocols involving human (from faculty, personnel and students;
2) Ensure satisfactory review of submitted research proposals by following the SOP and guidelines of Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), the accrediting body for RECs;
3) Issue ethical clearance to approved research proposals , i.e. no activity or research conduct can proceed without the clearance;
4) Ensure the protection of the rights and the well-being and safety of human participants in research;
5) Ensure the protection of the integrity of scientific data, and
6) Monitor and evaluate the University’s compliance to ethical policies and other requirements and report to the concerned institutional officials and government agencies as described in their respective rules.
